EVs are currently a totally new technology which is emerging in today’s time. As a result, many new owners and potential buyers has great interest in knowing about their functioning and how they perform under extreme tests. This is also leading to a huge confusion among potential EV buyers about what kw of battery will give a particular amount of range. This becomes even complex as its not constant always. Several factors affect the range which you can extract from a particular battery capacity.
List of factors which can affect the range of
an electric vehicle are listed below
1.
Tyre
pressure
2.
Wind
Resistance (Car Aerodynamics)
3.
Car
Weight
4.
Tyre
profile
5.
Driving
pattern
6.
Battery
Capacity
7.
Motor
Power and Efficiency and many more.
As we can see lots of factors can affect the
range which electric car can deliver. So even the same car with same battery
pack can deliver different ranges. This will be greatly dependent on the
driving pattern of the car owner.
General Misconception
Eco mode will give more range than City mode,
which will further give more range than Sports Mode. Yes, this is a misconception…
How to get desired range even in Sports mode.
There are just 2 simple steps to get your
desired range. No big headache of setting modes, setting regen. Forget
everything and just follow simple steps and you will get the range.
1.
Set
the tyre pressure to 2-3 psi more than recommended by manufacturer.
2.
Keep
watch over the drive power used by the Motor. You can see the drive power used
over here in your car.
All you have to do is use as minimum bars of
drive power as possible to gain your desired speed. Then maintain that desired
speed with minimum drive power bars. So, moral of the story is whole game is of
drive power. Just keep it to minimum level for gaining the speed you require
and you will get range irrespective of Modes, Speed, Highway or City. Nothing
else matters, just use this and you will get range. Keep regen to level 1 only.
When brake usage is required, use them mildly. Mild break usage brings regen to
level 2 automatically. So result is minimum usage of actual brakes.
In reality, sports mode has better throttle response and hence will give better range than other modes. Better throttle response will help you have better control over drive power during driving.
Result
I have got maximum range of upto 370 kms in 35
kw battery.
